Keywords
Before you start creating your website, make sure to know what each page of your website should be talking about. Structure the website by topics and categories. Create a separate page for each topic you want to address.
Since there is only one topic for each page, there is a specific range of applicable keywords for each page. A keyword is practically the descriptive word of a page. It's best to only commit to one keyword and its variations (such as synonyms) per page. You then use this word in your text, ideally at the beginning of the page name, in the URL of the page and in the meta description.
Example:
If you write an article about "sports shoes" on one of your pages, the keyword for the page will be "sports shoes". Try to use the words "sports shoes" as well as synonyms like "sneakers" or "trainers" in the text of the page. Be sure to use the keyword only as often as it makes sense in the text.
Tip:
Variations of the keyword and synonyms should definitely be used in the text, so that the text looks more natural and will be easier to read. A text seems less professional when a word is repeated too often. A bad text will decrease the users positive experience of your Website. Of course, we want to avoid such situation. Note that Google recognizes when a text looks unnatural and penalizes the page accordingly!
Keywords are often overrated in online SEO guides. Search engines, like Google, barely use the keyword tag in the code (meta-keywords). The main reason why keywords are still important is that they help you to structure your page. You create your website for people, and the better and clearer the structure, the more people will like your site!
Term: Keywords
- Words that the searcher enters when searching
- Google identifies these words and compares them to words on your page
- The better the words match with the content of your page, the better will be the ranking
- A page should only contain keywords about one topic. Various topics confuse Google and weaken all the keywords on this specific page.

In the advanced search, you should concentrate on which keywords are actually used. For example, you can see how your competitors write texts on their pages and take this as an example for your own page.
Ask friends and acquaintances what keywords they would use to find your pages. Write these keywords on a piece of paper as well.
One useful online service is Ubersuggest. It lets you find other keywords that are connected to your defined keyword and thus gives you more keyword ideas you can take into consideration.
